01 / The difference

The pattern stays fixed. The link behind it may not.

Both are ordinary, scannable QR patterns. “Dynamic” describes a managed redirect behind the code—not moving squares, a video, or a different camera requirement. This guide compares website URL codes; our current static tool encodes URLs, not contact cards or uploaded files.

Static vs dynamic: the practical differences

The first four rows describe the technology. Account, pricing and lifecycle policies depend on the provider; the remaining rows describe QRCodeBrain as checked on the date above.

03 / Choose a scenario

Start with the thing you are printing.

Choose an example to see the trade-off. These are planning examples, not live codes or account data.

A stable destination

Your portfolio URL is staying put.

Choose a static URL code.

Print a link to a website you control. Update your portfolio or contact details on that website without changing the code. This is a link on a business card, not a vCard file. If the domain or page URL must change, the printed payload cannot be rewritten; create a new code unless you can keep the old URL working.

Create a static QR code

No sign-in to generate or download PNG, SVG or PDF.

04 / Costs & continuity

Costs and continuity are product policies.

A QR pattern does not require a subscription. A service that maintains redirects and analytics may charge for those services. Do not assume every dynamic provider uses the same free trial, scan limit or renewal policy.

At QRCodeBrain, the static URL tool is free to generate and download without an account. Dynamic creation and management require sign-in. Free accounts have a dynamic code allowance, with larger allowances on QR Pro. Check the current pricing page for code limits, redirect allowances, billing and cancellation terms; this article does not create a new offer.

Can either kind expire or stop working?

A printed static URL has no timer built into its squares. QRCodeBrain does not put an expiry date or scan allowance on it. A deleted destination, expired domain, changed URL or damaged print can still make it unusable. “No timer” is not a promise that your website will always work.

For QRCodeBrain dynamic codes, subscription expiry, cancellation and scan allowance restrictions affect management actions such as creating codes or changing destinations; they do not, by themselves, stop public redirects. An owner pause, archive, account disposal, risk block, invalid destination or service outage can still prevent access. Other providers may disable redirects when a trial or subscription ends.

The redirect URL also depends on its domain and provider continuing to operate. A downloaded dynamic QR image is not a backup of the redirect service. Before long-lived printing, keep control of your destination website and understand the provider's continuity rules.

05 / Privacy & print

Statistics tell you about requests, not people.

QRCodeBrain's dynamic statistics aggregate successful redirect requests by UTC day, country and coarse device category. Repeated scans, bots and link previews can add requests; recording failures can leave requests uncounted. These totals are not unique visitors, precise locations, purchases or attribution.

The QR analytics tables do not store raw IP addresses or full user-agent strings. That limited statement does not cover account/session records, security processing, Cloudflare infrastructure or the destination website. Do not call the whole service anonymous. Static codes also do not make the destination website's tracking disappear.
